An authentic science community
of zoos
& school citizen scientists, led by real research scientists, co-delivering
an awesome
vision for animal welfare & science education & entrepreneurship for now & the future.
1. To immerse students in an authentic entrepreneurial science endeavour and community where their work is central to the creation of an authentic knowledge network that contributes to real-world animal conservation outcomes.
2. To improve our understanding of the importance of the hindgut microbiome in zoo animal welfare, and share this knowledge freely among all program participants to assist with animal conservation.
3. To energise communities around zoos, education, and science, to promote deeper cooperation and improved appreciation of the value of science for all lives on the planet.
The Zoo of Poo is an authentic research collaboration of students, research scientists and zoo keepers. The input of all partners is critical to the success of the program! Watch the video below to see an awesome Zoo of Poo collaboration among Cathwest Innovation College, Sydney Zoo and Quantal Bioscience in action!
WANT TO BE PART OF SOMETHING AWESOME?!!!
Inside your gut are more microbes than your own cells in your body! This amazing community of gut microbes is called the microbiome. The microbiome is very important to the health of any animal.
The microbiome of an animal responds to things like stress, a change in diet and many other factors we are only just learning about.
The Zoo of Poo project researches microbiomes of certain zoo animals to increase our knowledge, and help zoo keepers to improve their care for animals into the future.
